With a New Train Station, This is What Thorncliffe Park Should Look Like
Placing a train yard in Thorncliffe Park eliminates much needed transit-oriented development opportunity in Thorncliffe Park.
As you can see in above picture, this is the development opportunity of what Thorncliffe Park should have – a Thorncliffe Park North. Placing a train yard on 15 acres of land in Thorncliffe Park, eliminates the opportunity for over 2,000 residential dwellings that could provide much needed affordable housing, jobs in range of 1,400 to 1,800, and new community and recreational spaces.
On June 10th, SaveTPARK provided a critique of Metrolinx’s document which included a reasonable alternative that would not impede the progress of the Ontario Line, but preserve community space and the ability for Thorncliffe Park to benefit from much needed Transit Oriented Development, an opportunity that has been afforded to other more affluent communities along the other Metrolinx Stations, such as the East Harbour, the Mr. Christie/Parklawn site, Woodbine, Corktown and Liberty Village. What does Thorncliffe Park get – we get the toilet of this project, a train yard!
We all want what is best for our neighbourhood.Working with Metrolinx has been a unique experience – they are deceptive, they appear charming, they utilize deceptive language, but you are never quite sure whether you should believe them or not. SaveTPARK’s analysis has proven that they are an organization that should not be believed. The pattern of disrespect and mistreatment of communities like ours needs to stop. We should continue to push Metrolinx to revisit their process, consider the alternative site presented and give our community a chance to live, to grow and to thrive, not a big wall like this:
Here’s how YOU can help out today:
Email the Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney (minister.mto@ontario.ca) and Minister of Infrastructure Kinga Surma (kinga.surmaco@pc.ola.org) and state the following:
